MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY
Grand Tetons and Yellowstone Trip
About our trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks
After a couple years of staying home and avoiding travel due to COVID, we had a ton of vacation hours to burn and some pent-up energy to burn, so we planned a trip with a couple friends (a couple) to explore the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. We also looped in a few days in Park City on the end of the trip. We spent a week and a half camping by Campervan in the Colter Bay campgrounds and rented a condo in Park City. It was our first time using a Campervan and it was an incredible experience, made even better with amazing company.
When: May and June 2022
Why: We wanted an adventure with friends in nature. We were not ready for international travel due to COVID, but these National Parks were on all our bucket lists, so it felt like the perfect opportunity!
How Long: 2 weeks
Most surprised us: How much we enjoyed camping with a Campervan! Also how plentiful the wildlife is. We had read all about it ahead of time, but it still is surprising seeing bears, moose, deer, and bison while driving down the roads.
Most disappointed us: We were a few seconds late seeing a wolf in Yellowstone. It had just run off when we walked by, so we did not get to see any on the trip. Hardly a real disappointment since we saw every other large animal that lives in the area!
Would we do it again: Absolutely. It was incredible and we barely scratched the surface with the available hikes and activities. We would also visit Park City again.
Would we recommend it: Without question. It’s accessible for anyone. You can tent camp, Campervan, or stay in hotels right in the middle of the action. The majority of the wildlife we saw was actually by roadside, not on our hikes, so anyone can experience the views and wildlife viewing.
