MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

England and Wales Trip

Day 5 - May 9 2019

We woke up to the sound of lamb calls (did I mention May is lambing season?!?!) and immediately decided we will need to live like this someday. Pure heaven. For breakfast, we were graciously made avocado toast with poached eggs and tea… we know how lucky we are. We all got in the truck and drove the stunning roads that wind between the hills and mountains of the National Park toward Morfa Nefyn. We checked out the Criccieth Castle which was on a bluff harbor.

The cute coastal town surrounding the castle

Quick side note, when I was doing research in the area, I found a gorgeous inn on the beach tucked away that needed quite a walk- not clearly marked- to get to. I was bummed because I really wanted to do it but knew it was just too out of the way and really didn’t think we would do it. We never told our friends about this place. After the castle, we got back into the car and headed out again towards the town of Morfa Nefyn. They just said there’s a beautiful coastal walk there, we asked no further questions. After parking near the golf course (which we walked through- sorry golfers!) we made our way to the coast, where we got to see dolphins swimming and playing off the coast as we hike around the bluff.

The 45 minute gorgeous coastal walk ends on Treath Porthdinllaen on a beach with a couple bungalows and a pub called Ty Coch (it would be inappropriate if I spelled out the pronunciation). As we round the final cliff, there it is. The white and red inn tucked in a tiny inlet beach with picnic tables on the beach. This is where I wanted to go so badly!! Ugh this is so perfect it’s not fair. We got to have beers and snacks on this Beach. How in the world did we get to be so lucky??

We finished the evening in the town nearest to their cottage, Betws-y-coed, for really amazing pizza at Hangin’ Pizzeria (REALLY GREAT pizza) and drinks back at their place while watching the new GOT episode.

What an amazing day!
