MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

England and Wales Trip

Day 6 - May 10 2019

Today, we are off to learn how to make Mead!! I found a tiny meadery named Shire Meadery just south of Snowdonia and emailed the owner who said he does classes and you can make your own mead as you learn. Since distilling spirits is practically impossible due to US laws, we have wanted to brew Mead and were so excited to learn! Our friends were also very interested in learning about Mead. The class was just us four and Benjamin was so knowledgeable and answered our hundred questions happily. He let us taste probably 15 of his small batch meads and we got to make our own 5L batch! He taught us everything from disinfection, controlling alcohol level, taste, adding flavor, etc. We left absolutely sure we are making some soon after returning home. Oh, and we bought 4 of his bottles!!

We popped by the Cors Dyfi nature reserve to walk the well-maintained platform walks to view Buffalo and watch birds from atop the observation deck.

While in the area, we also took a stunning walk to view the Dolgoch Falls waterfall.

We had booked an amazing meal at Bistro Betws-y-coed for the evening, so after cleaning up, we devoured the meal, complete with 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, 2 bottles of wine, and constant conversation. The food was seriously incredible- one of our most memorable dinners.
