MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

Belgium Trip

Day 2 - December 3 2017

We landed in Belgium at 8AM and took the train directly to Ghent to check in to our Airbnb. It was a wonderful flat, plenty of space, comfortable, and had a nice host that spoke English very well. The location also couldn’t be beat; it was in the center of the city, so everything was a 10-15 minute walk. We took this first day to wander the gorgeous city and get our bearings.

Unfortunately, it was a Sunday, so many restaurants and shops were closed. By the time we got settled and cleaned up, dusk was setting in and we were dying for dinner, a beer, and lots of sleep. Without many options for dinner, we settled on Vaudeville restaurant near the main square. The food was not great, we would not recommend it, but it was our only close option that was open and without a wait. Mike made the mistake of ordering the special for the night: rabbit. Our meal of rabbit in Salzburg was wonderful. This one was not. I ordered the stew which was perfectly fine. It was enough to fill our bellies and set us off for a great night of much needed sleep.

The walk back towards the apartment was gorgeous. Along the canal are buildings lit up, the reflection sparkling in the river below.
