MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

England and Wales Trip

Day 14 - May 18 2019

Unfortunately, we lost almost all our photos of this day. 🙁

Our last day of the trip had us taking the line to the Natural History Museum so Jess could see some dino bones! It was a stunning museum with a ton of exhibits that were all fascinating.

The next destination was the neighborhood of Notting Hill. Yes, because of the movie. I just couldn’t help myself. We had decided to walk there, through Hyde Park for a part of it. Along the way, we stopped in for an oddly-timed (only reservation we could get) afternoon tea. I had assumed afternoon tea would be easy to come by on this trip, but learned reservations are needed,  and far in advance. So, with it being our last day in the land of afternoon teas, we had to take what we could get!

The cafe was empty and the cakes and sandwiches were clearly not made that day, so it wasn’t quite the experience we had hoped for, but that was our fault for not doing more research on best places and how to snag a table!

The walk was fun and long, but walking into Notting Hill, was surprising! The streets were PACKED with street stands and people. We got a couple nibbles (a loaf of sourdough for me, of course!) and we walked around the neighborhood, finding the movie spots like the blue door of William and Spike’s flat, the gated garden William “woopsie-daisy”-ed scaling. It’s a beautiful neighborhood and it was very clear I was not the only one brought there by the movie!

There was a line of people waiting to take a photo in front of the door. I feel so bad for who owns it!

We took the line back to Covent Garden to make our 4PM Dishoom reservation. This time, we were sat downstairs and got double the amount of food we should have. Their signature black daal, lamb biryani, the Ruby (butter) chicken and more gunpowder potatoes.

We had one last pint at the Seven Stars, which ended up being our favorite pub in London, and walked back to the hotel. We were flying out the next morning and needed a good night’s sleep!
