MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

England and Wales Trip

Day 8 - May 12 2019

Our incredible friends made sure to send us off with another filling meal, a traditional Welsh breakfast- eggs, bacon, black pudding, pork sausages, tomato, bubble and squeak, and bread.

While packing the car up, we noticed one of our tires was flat as a pancake. We used the kit in the trunk which inflates the tire and blows foam into the tire to patch up holes, which seems to do the job. While the men were working on that, I called the rental to find out where we need to take the car to get the tire patched up and the closest shops are either an hour in the wrong direction or 3 hours in the right direction! We crossed our fingers the tire holds!

We reluctantly say our goodbyes to the best hosts anyone could’ve asked for and the cute little lambs in the field.

We took the quickest route to Tenby and checked the tire pressure numerous times along the way.

Finally in Newport, where the approved auto shop was, and we made it safely with the tire still intact! They replaced the tire and said it had a huge bolt in it… that it was leaking still when we brought it in… that the foam did nothing… so we were pretty lucky! With a new tire on, we made our way to the next planned stop, Tenby.

We checked in at the Premier Inn, dropped our bags, and started wandering. This cute coastal town is popular among UK citizens for family beach weekends. The Tenby Castle grounds were beautiful and the coastal views were amazing.

We wandered the winding downtown roads and popped into the Harbwr Tenby Brewery for some relaxation after the somewhat stressful car ride. While sitting at an outdoor table, a local asked us what our plans were for our stay in the area. We told him our plan for the next day was to go see the Green Bridge, Elegug Stacks and the Cauldron, all natural coast formations. He warned us to check the government website to make sure the small road out to these spots were open since they frequently closed due to active military tests. Thank goodness for him, because we checked the website and it would have been closed! He recommended instead that we take a day to explore some of the Pembrokeshire Coast.

After some brews and planning our new itinerary for the next day, we got dinner at Billycan. We got some decent, but not memorable, lamb shank and steak and ale pie.
