After grabbing some coffee and breakfast to go at The Mooring Cafe, we followed our savior from the previous night’s directions and park by the Stackpole Inn in the teeny tiny town of Stackpole, just 20 minutes from Tenby. We followed the paved road to the coast and joined the Wales Coastal path. Along the way, we got to walk along the nearly empty beaches.
We headed towards the Lilly ponds that were recommended, but did not do a great job following trails. We ended up trudging through thick bushland and cutting across large cow pastures (someone’s farm! Sorry!) and Mike accidently steps right into a fresh cow pie! Thankfully he had a spare set of shoes in the car!
Past the Lilly ponds, we finished back at the inn, which has a pub on the first floor. We decided to grab lunch on one of their picturesque picnic tables out front and enjoy lamb cawl, fish and chips, and a farmers platter.
On the way back, we hit a couple castles, Pembroke and Carew. Did you know Wales has more castles per capita than any other country?!
We wanted to get some gifts for back home, so we shopped at The Welsh Gift Shop and Joys of Tenby. We also walked past a used bookstore, Cafion, that was quite unique! Mike was brave enough to scoot through the aisles to find a couple books and an ink drawing from a local artist to buy.
For dinner, we felt like eating in and having an early night, so we grabbed an amazingly huge kebab meal at Arches Kebab to eat in the room while we wound down for the day.
