MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

Germany and Austria Trip

About our trip to Germany and Austria

This was the first trip Mike and I did on our own, without family making the bookings and handling the non-English communications. It was also our first time in Europe. We were so excited, over-prepared (yet, somehow, at the same time, under-prepared), and a little nervous for this vacation. The posts in this trip were written the day they were happening to update friends and family. To preserve the authenticity of my ramblings, I have kept it all in.

When: December 2016
Why: We wanted to experience the magic of German and Austrian Christmas markets. The fairytale buildings and charm of Bavaria had called to us for some time. Also, not having to rent a car and instead, travel by train was a huge plus.
How Long: 2 weeks with an extra layover-day in Dublin Ireland
Most surprised us: How much we could envision living in Munich and how perfect Salzburg was. Also, making some friends from England in an Austrian bar!
Most disappointed us: Nuremburg. It’s the only part of our trip we would not revisit. It was a beautiful town, but lacked the charm and personality of the other stops.
Would we do it again: We would be thrilled to visit Munich, Bamberg, and Salzburg again.
Would we recommend it: We would recommend these cities to anyone who was willing to walk a TON! In our opinion, every step was worth it!
