MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

Philippines Trip

Day 10 - April 17 2017

It was my last full day here and the boy’s Saturday so we start off with some Filipino breakfast. I had heard many times how good bone marrow is supposed to be. I had heard it called gelatinous gold by Anthony Bourdain if I’m not mistaken. There’s a Filipino soup that has a large beef bone in it, with marrow for you to scoop out. This was my chance. The restaurant we went to had it. In fact, I went on a mad search for a restaurant near us that did. We ordered it. I hated the marrow. Couldn’t eat it. That’s the great thing about food. You can’t take someone else’s word for it. You have to try it yourself.

We called the driver and headed up to a swap meet style mall about thirty minutes away. There were rows and rows of stalls selling jewelry, clothes, home goods. Every stand attendant is yelling “dress, ma’am” “watch sir” “bra ma’am”.

The boys got some shirts and I got some pearls. We picked up a work friend from here and head for some ramen.

After lunch at our favorite ramen place, we walked around the city.  In the center of the city was a free concert with Switchfoot playing. It was the busiest I had seen the city, which was a cool way to end the trip. We got some ice cream and chatted while listening to the concert. We headed back to the hotel around nine so I can pack and get a good nights sleep before my traveling back home.
