MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

Thailand and Cambodia Trip

Day 18 - December 18 2014

Unfortunately, the weather was not kind to us in Samui. Winds were strong and it rained often and plenty. Our daylong boat trip was canceled as it was unsafe to travel by boat. Fortunately, though, there are not many better places to have a free day in. We slept in late and headed back out into the waves.

After some playing in the rain, we cleaned up and decided on some more massages. 2 hours later, our backs were tender and our bellies were empty so we headed out for some Thai food. Since it is still a touristy area, most restaurants are “Irish” or “Australian,” etc. Most of them have nothing resembling what you would expect to find in them, but thankfully, they all have Thai food. We decided to try out a “European” restaurant and got lucky with some very good Thai curries.

Mike and I did some shopping but, once again, are bummed by the selection. If you are in need for some x-rated keychains, shirts with a blonde girl flipping you off, or wood sculptures of elephants, you are in luck. Anything else, better luck next time. Dad tells us of some better shopping in Pattaya and we are hopeful since that will be our last stop and last hope for decent gifts and souvenirs.

A bit later, we went to a few restaurant/bars with lackluster menus. While drinking my beer, I felt an urge for some fries. Practically every meal we had on this trip had been amazing Thai food, but I was hankering for some potatoes. Sure enough, one of the bars had fries on their menu! At the steep price of $7! I could have ordered 3 meals from the food cart outside for $7, but I was craving them. I got what I deserved for ordering fries. About 5 of them.
Still hungry after my snack, we decided to visit the food stalls again.

While eating at a table outside one of the outdoor bars, I had the terrible idea of ordering shots for everyone. A few drinks and some food later, we headed to an Irish bar that had a live Thai cover band playing. An hour or so later, we finally retired.
