MIKE AND JESS' TRAVEL DIARY

Thailand and Cambodia Trip

Day 3 - December 3 2014

We started the day with an early morning flight to the tiny airport in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Our hotel is perfect. It is called a boutique hotel, only 16 rooms. Lush plants cover their front courtyard where they serve food. We arrive and they ask us to sit on the couches and serve an amazing lemongrass tea. After, a fresh coconut sticky rice appetizer. The service is impeccable and inviting. They show us to our rooms and to our surprise the bed was decorated with strips of thick leaves and flowers to say “Welcome  Happy Honeymoon.” Towels folded as two swans with necks forming a heart. A beautiful surprise.

We headed down to the infinity pool for beers and peanuts as we relax from the travel. After cleaning up, we walked to Pub Street. A couple short blocks filled with shops, restaurants, bars, a few clubs, and food stalls. The only people except the workers and beggars anywhere around are tourists. Tuk Tuks swarm the streets and Cambodian women with their child and an empty bottle walk inches from you begging for formula. My little research before coming had taught that this is a scam. They take you to a market where you spend $30 on formula. After you leave thinking you did a good thing, they return the formula and take the profit.

We chose a Khmer restaurant to eat at. $.50 draft beers all night is being taken advantage of. Once the night gets later and it becomes dark out, the streets are blocked off, and the streets fill with tourists. A few hours and beers later, we retire to the hotel. Mike and I ordered some fried rice and noodles to take to the room and we passed out shortly after.
